Launching and riding a short board in confused seas shows great kite control and balance - while the foil gives dynamic lift and shock mitigation. The foil, similar in appearance to a mini aeroplane, is connected to a long fin under a kiteboard. Once the kite is powered up and the board is up to speed the foil creates sufficient lift to support the rider’s weight. The board then lifts off the water, riding only on the submerged foil.
